Imperialism, globalization and even travel have helped cause the prominence of various peoples and their unique trades to fade into history. It seems that only with a time machine, could we step back and catch a glimpse of these bygone crafts and cultures. EE doesn’t have a time machine, but we have figured out how to step back in time! Take one of our tours to Dagestan and you may find yourself thinking that you have, in fact, travelled in time.

Due to EE’s crafts and culture tours, the concept of being “lost to time” has gone the way of the Dodo. Over a period of five days and nights you’ll visit a land–its peoples and its pastimes–as it appeared a century or more ago. Perhaps clothing and housing have modernized, but the traditions and handiworks have intentionally been passed down to preserve the time-honored beauty cast in its many different forms.

Master craftsmanship in making carpets and jewelry has been uniquely preserved by the Tabasaran and Kubachi peoples, respectively. You’ll spend time in their homes and workshops, as well as explore their village homelands. Discover for yourself the value of hand-made crafts as calculated by quality, know-how, and the culture that treasures these arts. Eventually the time machine will return to the modern era, but you, at least, will be able to bring a piece of the past home with you.
