Late afternoon arrival (fly into MinVody airport, transfer to Hot Springs accommodations)
Moscow is the gateway city for passengers entering Russia. From any of Moscow’s airports you can find connections to your destination airport – Mineral Waters (MRV). You will transfer from MRV to Aushiger and accommodate in a Hot Springs hotel.
Sight-see Blue Lake, Cherek Tunnel, memorial, village ruins (Upper Balkaria accommodations)
After sleeping off your jet lag and enjoying a first-rate brunch, you’ll casually spend your first day sight-seeing the Blue Lake, the scenic “old road” (1 km) alongside the Cherek Canyon, historic memorials of the Balkar people and the ruins of their old villages.
Bike Riding Day 1 (see Ride Data) – cultural exch.1 (Bezengi Village accommodations)
Ride one will likely be the most challenging for you, as you’ll traverse steep terrain on the pass from the Cherek Valley to the Bezengi Valley. Your reward, other than confidence for the trails ahead, is to celebrate the accomplishment with village locals in Bezengi.
Bike Riding Day 2 (see Ride Data) – paragliding (Paradrome accommodations)
Although not as long, the pass from the Bezengi Valley to the Cherek Valley is no cupcake. Even so, ride hard to save daylight. A 25-minute paragliding ride awaits anyone who arrives at the end of the day with enough time left (and 3,000 Rubles in his/her pocket).
Bike Riding Day 3 (see Ride Data) – cultural exch.2 (Belem Village accommodations)
With the most downhill of any ride to this point, day three will offer a noticeable reprieve from the two previous days. Still, don’t underestimate the residual fatigue you may experience. At the end of this ride await the blue-hued lakes above Belem Village.
Bike Riding Day 4 (see Ride Data) – explore Juli Su (Juli Su campsite)
The breadth of landscape visible from today’s ridges may cause you to ride a little more slowly. That’s okay, as the trail is an old Soviet road grown over for the last 25 years. You’ll need to keep at least one eye on the trail at all times to avoid a painful tumble.
Bike Riding Day 5 (see Ride Data) – Gedmish Falls, cultural exch.3 (Gedmish accommodations)
Kenjal Plateau, offering the most majestic view of Mt. Elbrus in Kabardino-Balkaria, lies between Juli Su and Gedmish Falls. Take in the scenery, but don’t tarry too long. Gedmish Falls and residents of Habaz Village are waiting to meet you.
Bike Riding Day 6 (see Ride Data) – explore Kundolen Village (Kundolen accommodations)
You’ve saved the easiest ride for last – from Gedmish to Kundolen Village. But we’re not saying it’s easy. Your trail goes along the Tizil Valley and the river that runs through it. After the ride enjoy a hot shower and a home-cooked meal with Kundolen locals.
Gondola up Mt. Elbrus, see Pyatagorsk, evening departure (fly out of MinVody airport)
After a hearty breakfast, excursion to Mt. Elbrus (Europe’s highest peak) and ride the gondola up to over 10,000 ft. above sea level. After viewing the region from on high, you will transfer back to Mineral Waters (MRV) airport for an evening departure.
